"Mad Munich" is celebrated on Fasching Sunday, the 3rd February 2008, on Monday, the 4th February, and on Shrove Tuesday, the 5th February, in the pedestrian precincts with music, fancy dress and dancing.
One of the highlights of the Munich Fasching is the Dance of the Market Women at the Viktualienmarkt at 11 am on Shrove Tuesday, the 5th February.

The "Munich Secession" - ExhibitionFounded in Munich in 1892, the artists' association "Munich Secession" opposed a narrow and conservative view of 19th century art and championed a pioneering liberation of art. In a very short time Secessions were formed in Darmstadt, Dresden, Vienna and Berlin in keeping with the Munich example. The exhibition stresses the standing of Munich prevailing then as it does today as an international metropolis of art and culture.

The 57th ARD International Music CompetitionEach year some 500 musicians from all parts of the world apply to enter the International Music Competition of the ARD (the working pool of Germany's public broadcasting corporations) - it is one of the world's major classical competitions.

Kandinsky Exhibition LenbachhausThe Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) and founding member of the expressionist group of artists called the "Blue Rider" (Blauer Reiter) is regarded as one of the great pioneers of art in the 20th century.

Please note: after this exhibition the Lenbach House will be closed for restoration work and alterations. The London architects' office Forster and Partners is responsible for the new design. But while this work is proceeding there will still be exhibitions in the adjacent Kunstbau, located below ground at the Königsplatz underground station.
The opening of the renovated museum is planned for 2011. At the same time 2011 is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the expressionist artists' group, the "Blue Rider" (Blauer Reiter).
