Incredible Tour
We had an incredible tour with John. He is very knowledgeable about the area and its history. We never would have been able to see everything that we wanted to without John’s expertise. He knew exactly where to stop for the most amazing pictures as well.
The drive from Munich to the castles flew by both because of the beautiful scenery and John’s history lesson on Bavaria. Can you see the castles on your own or in a large group tour? Of course, but you will miss so much doing it that way.
This tour was well worth every euro. I highly recommend it.

Great Time
We had a great time. despite a rainy day, John gave us a great tour. Visited a few spots we would have never found if not for his expertise.
Lunch in Austria was amazing. Definitely worth having someone handle the details and the driving so we could just sit back and enjoy. John's knowledge of the castles and the area was impressive.

Worth it
John is an excellent host. He has a great deal of knowledge. His tours are more conversational, like a friend is taking you to see the sites as opposed to a formal tour guide. He has no specific agenda, unless of course you want one.

He will take you wherever you want to go and show you as much or as little as you’d like.

BREATHTAKING BAVARIAN TOUR
We would definitely book again with Johns Bavarian Tours in the future.
John personally attended to all of our advance requests, as well as coordinated all of our last-minute wishes too. Utilizing John’s expertise, we were able to maximize our time in Germany and Austria. His guidance and suggestions ensured that our checklist of must-see venues were visited. We never felt rushed, and John was 100% attentive all throughout our travels with him.
We wanted to visit a location that no other tourist had ever previously requested. Due to its uniqueness, John performed advance research utilizing several local resources. This gives you some idea how much John genuinely cares about all of his guests. Even as a castle tour was ending, John provided such additional context to us that other travelers hovered nearby to hear what he had to say!!

This is a very overdue review, but we'd like to share our very good experience with John on a day trip to see various castles in September 2023. It was our last day in Munich and John agreed to pick us up from our hotel early in the morning after we have checked out, and took us to see Neuschwanstein and Linderhof (with leisurely stops at an ancient abbey and a restaurant for lunch), and then dropped us off at the airport in the late afternoon for our flight home. John was more than happy to share his detailed knowledge of the castles and King Ludwig as a historian, which made our day trip so much more than about sightseeing.
Highly recommended!

We had the most amazing day with John in Salzburg. I had family visiting from the US and the “Salzburg Day Tour” tour we booked has exceeded our expectations! We were very lucky with the weather and John made it so easy to just enjoy the trip and the whole day because he took care of literally everything.
Apart from the city tour with a lot of history facts, he took us to the best places to eat, scenic viewing lookouts and even to nice shopping places. His expertise and knowledge was impressive. But even more outstanding for me and my family was how friendly and entertaining

See, learn and enjoy!
John showed us areas of Bavaria we might have seen ourselves but he added a lot of information and insights about the area as we drove through it so it was much more meaningful.
He arranged for us to have a private tour in Berchtesgaden so there was no rush or hurry so you can ask as many questions as come to mind. It's worth the money and time. Plus, he knows the good restaurants in all the areas and has good relationships with them too so in one we got excellent seating even tho it was very busy. And, he has a calm demeanor.

Best guide in all of Bavaria!
John Wetstone is the go-to guy for any sort of tour in Bavaria. I worked with John twice - once in 2018 when he took my son and me on 4 days of wonderful tours - saw the Eagle's Nest, Salzburg, Herrenchiemsee and Hohenschwangau. The second time I worked with John was in October 2024 when he took a friend and me to Neuschwanstein and Linderhof, along with a wonderful lunch in the Austrian Alps.
John is meticulous with scheduling and communication. His vehicle is impeccable. He also has valuable contacts all over the region that provide unique access. Just 2 examples: John took us to a hidden gem of a restaurant in the Austrian Alps on the way back from Neuschwanstein where the owner came out and served us personally. John even knew the parking lot attendant at the Hohenschwangau castle - how many tour guides can say that?

John is also an expert on Bavaria history and Ludwig II, so as a fellow history-lover, it made the ride go by in a flash as there a constant exchange of information on the area.
I would not even consider choosing anyone else - John's attention to detail and devotion to touring and history are values that other guides cannot provide.
